Double skin systems are for buildings that meet heat and fire regulations. Such as hospitals heated factories, schools, colleges and alike.

Double Skin also adds a sound deadening factor because of the insulation quilt it supresses the sound. So If you had a noisy factory with a single skin you would perhaps use an over clad to keep the noise in thus making it a double skin (twin skin).
